DARLINGTON, SC (Feb. 21, 2023) – 119 junior golfers enjoyed fantastic weather on Monday for the Presidents Day One Day at Darlington Country Club. Tight leaderboards in all age brackets were the theme of the day, as all divisions were decided by a margin of two strokes or less.

Conway’s Andrew Roof and Luke Caughman of Lexington tied for first place in the boys 12 & under division at four-over par 40. Roof came out on top in the scorecard playoff to bring home the first place trophy, thanks to a birdie on the tricky par-5 18th hole to finish his round.

In the girls 12 & under age group, AC Peake of Pauline and Gracyn Cox of Aynor finished their round in a tie for first place that, once again, had to be decided by a scorecard playoff. The two competitors finished at nine-over par 45, and Peake was victorious in the scorecard playoff.

Reed Cook of Awendaw carded the low 18-hole round of the day to claim the boys 13-18 division. Cook posted one-over par 73 after shooting one-under par on the back nine, which was good enough to win by a single stroke over a host of other competitors.

Florence’s Drew Jeffords, Ty O’Brien of Myrtle Beach, Benjamin Bankson of Florence, and Dylan Starnes of Myrtle Beach each finished in a tie for runner-up at two-over par 74.

Emerson Devers of Murrells Inlet posted a round of four-over par 76 to win the girls 13-18 contest over runner-up Ella Kate Barnett of Galivants Ferry. Devers built as large as a five-stroke advantage throughout the day, thanks to birdies on the first two holes and an eagle on the par-five 10th hole.

The SCJGA would like to extend a special thanks to Darlington Country Club for their hosting of the Presidents Day One Day and continuous support of junior golf in South Carolina!
