In 1993, a group of Country Club of Spartanburg members, many of whom continue to serve on the tournament's Board of Directors today, came together with a vision to establish a nationally recognized junior golf championship. With the support of the South Carolina Golf Association and South Carolina Junior Golf Association, the inaugural Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational was held in 1995.
