TL Hanna Holds on to take the Tenth Annual Jimmy Self

Hilton Head, SC: Blustery conditions and a tough Robert Cupp course made for tough scoring conditions at the 10^th Annual Jimmy Self High School Invitational. After the second round at Palmetto Hall Plantation, TL Hanna maintained their first round lead and captured the overall title. Ben Martin of Greenwood High School also kept his overnight lead to win the medalist honors. As part of a joint effort, the tournament is hosted by Hilton Head High School, sponsored by Greenwood Development, and conducted by the SC Junior Golf Association. The sixteen schools fielded five player teams and counted the four best scores for each round.

TL Hanna fired a second round team total of 313 to win by five shots over Greenhope High School’s best effort of 625. Easley High School managed third place with a tournament total of 639. The windy conditions took their toll on all the players as the 74 posted by Adam Sheriff of TL Hanna was low round for the day. Ben Martin coupled his opening 69 with a 76 to win by four shots over Patrick Rada and five over Phillip Mollica.

The invitational is named for Jimmy Self, former Chairman-of-the-Board for Greenwood Mills, who died in 1995. Mr. Self served as captain of the golf team at Clemson in 1964 & 65, was on the South Carolina Golf Association Board from 1969-71 and was generous to the game of golf in the years that followed. The parties involved felt this tournament would be a great tribute to the man that gave so much to golf.
