Riverside Wins Jimmy Self in Record Form

Riverside High School from Greer, SC posted a final round 292 to win the Fifth Annual Jimmy Self High School Invitational. The team's four over par round broke the old single round record by two strokes. Their 595 total was the tournament record by ten strokes and gave them a 23 stroke victory over second place, Easley High School at 618. 1999 Champion South Aiken finished in third place at 621. Riverside was led by seniors Bill Haas and Brent Delahoussaye. The pair are ranked 1^st and 2^nd respectively in South Carolina on the BB&T Rankings.

In the individual race, Haas was five under par for the day and two strokes in front of first round leader Matt Giffin of Easley High School going into the final hole. A long range birdie by Giffin and an uncharacteristic four putt by Haas for double bogey six produced a three shot swing and a one stroke victory by Giffin for the individual championship. Delahoussaye posted an even par 72 and finished in third place.

Eighteen teams, from Georgia and South Carolina competed in the 36 hole event played on the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall, February 25-26, 2000. The event was sponsored by Greenwood Mills, hosted by Hilton Head High School and conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association.
