Burger Claims Haas Honors!!

The South Carolina Junior Golf Association is proud to announce Jacob Burger as the Jay Haas Player-of-the-Year. The honor is awarded by Champions Tour Player Jay Haas.

The Association’s highest honor (for boys) is awarded to South Carolina’s top ranked player on the December 1st  issue of the Heritage Classic Foundation  Rankings. The Heritage Classic Foundation  Rankings are based on overall finishes in tournaments across South Carolina and nationwide. Points are compiled from over 100 events conducted over the past twelve months.

Orangeburg’s Burger started the year in 2nd place on the rankings just behind 2006 award winner McCuen Elmore. The ensuing months had Elmore and Burger swapping the top spot with Jacob taking over the lead in June. A strong summer campaign from Chapin’s Wesley Bryan had him on top in July. Both competitors stayed very close in points for the rest of the season and the two final events determined the winner. Jacob won both the SCJGA Players Championship and the George Holiday to win the closest race in SCJGA history. In the end, Burger prevailed by a slim 8 points to put his name on the Jay Haas Award.

Burger will join Elmore at Clemson University to pursue his collegiate career.

Jacob Burger  will be honored at a press conference: Wednesday, January 2nd at the Thornblade Club in Greenville. The program will start promptly at 10:30 am. On hand for the presentation will be Champions Tour Player Jay Haas, The Burger family, representatives from the media, and the SCJGA. All junior golf supporters are welcome to attend.
