2009 Fall Challenge
Cheraw - Austin Cody closed out his
SCJGA career with a bang as he finished 36 holes at 9 under par to win the 15th
Annual Cheraw Fall Challenge. Both he and runner up; Chandler Brazeal, beat the
existing tournament record in a great weekend of golf. McKenzie Talbert added
yet another win to her career with a three shot victory over Maureen Dunnagan in
the overall girl?s race. Talbert finished the two day event at five under par.
Wesley Long from Bluffton won the boy?s 13-14 bracket after his two over par 75
was two strokes clear of his competitors. Ryan Lamb and Ryan Carpenter tied for
second at 150.The action at Moree's Country Club for the nine hole divisions was tremendous as well. Coleman Self fired a tournament record 66 to win the boy's 10-12 title. His Sunday round of 31 tied the record for low nine set by Ben Fogler in 2004. The oldest nine hole bracket of girls has Reona Hirai as our 2009 champion after she finished at 70 for the two rounds. The boy's 8-9 was taken by Seth Taylor while Jensen Castle took the top spot in the girl?s 8-10 division.
The juniors are age 8-18 and broken into seven age brackets for the two day competition. The younger brackets competed over nine holes of play at Moree's Cheraw Country Club while the boy's 13-14, 15-18, and girl's 14-18 all played 18 holes of individual stoke play at Cheraw State Park. The Town of Cheraw presents the golf tournament in a wonderful showcase of southern hospitality.
