SCJGA Blog
February 16, 2012 - I would like to announce our new "unofficial" contest we have for our alumni on the PGA Tour. Each week we will keep a tally of the top finishing player from the SCJGA on tour that event. We will then present the award at the end of the year to the top earner. It may not be the most prestigious award these guys may win all year, but we believe it has some pretty decent bragging rights to it. Stay tuned! - Allen KnightDID YOU KNOW - That the only players to capture the SCGA Jr Boys Championship and SC Amateur Championship titles are - Tommy Biershenk Jr, Lucas Glover and Mark Anderson. All on the PGA Tour this year.
January 23, 2012 - The weather wasn't very golf friendly this weekend, cold and rainy for the most part. I do need to acknowledge our SC players who brought home the Carolinas-Georgia Cup. Great playing!!!! We have added an incentive next year, whoever is the low round for SC players next years event on Round One, will have the option of getting Chris Miller to caddie for Round Two. I personally would love to see him toting the bag and raking traps. - Allen Knight
January 5, 2012 - First blog of 2012 and we have lots going on! I personally am getting the "digital media" needed together for our 2012 Golf Day and SC Golf Hall of Fame ceremonies as well as trying to get the new website built. I don't have a date yet for release, but everyone here is excited for the site and a great year in SC golf. If you haven't friended us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter, we invite you to as we are going to start utilizing these social media's in 2012. - Allen Knight
December 20, 2011 - Last nights College Golf Night was a huge success at Wild Dunes Golf Club. A plethora of topics were covered ranging from fitness/nutrition, grades/GPA, how and how often to contact college coaches, parents involvement, and everything in between. I feel confident that every family in attendance learned something very valuable. Thank you Kory Thompson and Mike Wilson for attending and providing great insight from a coaches point of view. Kory is the head women's coach at Augusta State University while Mike is head men's coach at Charleston Southern University. This event was very unique in that it provided a college coaches panel that allowed both parents and junior golfers to ask any question and interact with coaches in regard to college golf and what it takes to get there. Thank you Brandi Jackson and Brandi Jackson Golf, this was your event and would not have been possible at all without your efforts and expertise. Brandi came up through the SCJGA, was an All-American at Furman University, and spent 8 years on the LPGA and Futures Tour. Now she is using her experiences to help consult and assist families through the recruiting process to ensure they find the right college fit. I would encourage anyone who is interested and possibly overwhelmed with what it takes to get a golf scholarship and go on from junior golf and play college golf to reach out to Brandi. Please continue to check our website on a regular basis, plans are to add two more of these events to our schedule early in 2012! - Justin Fleming
December 14, 2011 - SCJGF representatives visited The Golf Club at Star Fort in
Ninety Six, SC last night for their end-of-the-year Junior Awards Banquet! The
SCJGF has provided Star Fort with some grant funding for their junior program
and are always delighted to speak to the participants and club staff & members
to see our impact! Pleasantly surprised by the guest speaker...former SCJGA,
University of South Carolina and Nationwide Tour standout Kyle Thompson! What a
great opportunity for the youngsters to hear him speak and how cool for him to
make the time and be a part of these young people's lives! A great example Kyle!
Do well on the West Coast swing and enjoy the travel with the family! One shot
at a time! - Joe Quick
December 7, 2011 - We have decided to extend the deadline of the Ford-Picard
tournament. Please have entries in by 5PM on Friday, Dec. 9th.
November 20, 2011 - The 14th Annual Players Championship has concluded, and what
a great event as always! Lauren Stephenson shattered the scoring record set by
Taylor Ann Dodson last year in the Girls 14-18 division. Lauren fired 66-66 for
a two day total of 132. In the Boys 15-18 bracket, we had our first ever brother
duo to capture the same title with Austin Zoller winning this years title. His
brother Taylor won back in 2009. Trevor Phillips captured the Boys 13-14 title
while his younger brother, Trent Phillips, won the Boys 10-12 bracket.Congrats
to Natalie Srinivason for winning the Girls 11-13 title. A very special thanks
to Lewis Brown, Hartsville CC, the Coker College Boys and Girls teams for
helping this year end event continue to be special. Happy Thanksgiving everyone
and we will see you at Wild Dunes for the Ford-Picard Christmas Classic. -
Allen Knight
November 20, 2011 - Thanks to Hartsville CC, the City of Hartsville, Darlington
Country and the volunteers for making the 2011 Players Championship a huge
success. As the Tournament Director for the past four years I continue to be
impressed with all the quality of our young players and family members. A
special thank you to the staff of the SCJGA for providing our young people with
such a great opportunity to compete and make life long friends. - Lewis Brown
November 20, 2011 - It's a beautiful morning in Hartsville and NO frost on the
ground. I just asked Craig Dorn, the head Fry Guy and found out it takes, 350
hamburgers, 15 Boston Butts, 350 pounds of potatoes and a 125 pound pig to feed
the players and families at this years event. Great job as always by this
dedicated crew! - Allen Knight
November 19, 2011 - Day one is in the books. Lots of good golf played today, and
lots and lots of good food devoured. Should be a fun day to watch golf tomorrow
with good weather and some tight brackets. Lauren Stephenson set a new 18
tournament record with 66 today, one better than previous holder Taylor Ann
Dodson from her 2010 Players Championship. - Allen Knight
November 19, 2011 - We had a 30 minute frost delay this morning, but the players
are on the course and this rules official is ready for the sun to pop out from
behind the clouds. Good luck to all of our SC players down in Florida at the
AJGA! - Allen Knight
November 18, 2011 - Great job tonight by Hartsville C.C., The French Fry Guys
and the tournament chairman Lewis Brown for hosting another great Players
Championship Dinner. A special thanks to the Coker College Boys and Girls Golf
for conducting our "Glow Ball Challenge". - Allen Knight
November 18, 2011 - We arrived to Hartsville CC about 9am to see some light
frost on the ground. The tempatures are supposed to reach the 70's both days of
our 14th Annual Players Championship, so it should be nice conditions. The
French Fry Guys are also here setting up, getting prepared for tonights dinner
and the rest of the weekend. We hope you enjoy the new SCJGA blog!
