Spartanburg – David May captured the 10th Annual Bobby Chapman after his second round 67 left him one clear of the field. The first round leader, Josh Sandman fired a one over par 72, to finish in second place. The 36 hole tournament is hosted by the membership of the Country Club of Spartanburg and is conducted by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. Yardage on the Donald Ross track is 6,282 with a par of 71.

May, newly committed to Clemson, started the day with a bogey on the first hole. The Auburn, NY native birdied two, three, and five to turn at two under 32. A back nine of two under 35 ended the day in 67 strokes and the Bobby Chapman  was his. It must be noted that this victory is two in a row for the Clemson squad as the 2003 Champion, Phillip Mollica, is also headed to the Penley camp. Sandman opened with one under 33, but fell one short as his backside two over 39 hurt his chances for the title.

The field is comprised of players who are regionally or state ranked. This year’s group consists of seven state champions, 57 individual titleholders, four American Junior Golf Association winners and 21USGA Junior Amateur Qualifiers.

The tournament is held to honor the late Bobby Chapman, a leader in the textile industry who served as chairman of the South Carolina Golf Association and Carolinas Golf Association.

This event is one of 13 statewide championships conducted by the SCJGA. Results, schedules and applications may be accessed via the Internet at www.scjga.org/chapman
