Todd Takes the 8th Annual Bobby Chapman

The game of golf was much harder for the 90 player field as the second round of the Bobby Chapman was played in extremely wet and tough conditions. Brendon Todd held on to his first round lead as he fired a one over par  72 to win the 8th Annual Bobby Chapman Invitational. The Cary, North Carolina native's total of four under par 138 secured a 2 shot victory over Brian Harmon of Savannah, Georgia. The 36 hole event is proudly hosted by The Country Club of Spartanburg and conducted by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.

Todd began the day tied with Clarksville, Georgia native Major Manning at five under par and one shot clear of Harmon.  After 27 holes Todd had a four shot lead over his nearest competitors Manning and Harmon.  Coming down the stretch Harmon made a charge while Manning began to struggle. On the par five seventeenth hole, Harmon had a chance to close the two stroke lead with an eagle opportunity. Todd  three putted for bogey and Harmon's par gained him a shot.  Harmon found trouble off of the eighteenth tee and was forced to lay back and made bogey. Todd faced a testy downhill putt for birdie. A successful two putt secured the victory for Todd.

As the Bobby Chapman Champion, Todd will receive an invitation to the 2002 AJGA Polo Junior Classic, during Thanksgiving weekend at Walt Disney World.

The tournament is held in honor of the late Robert H. Chapman Jr. Mr. Chapman served the game well as president of both the South Carolina Golf Association and the Carolina's Golf Association. In his business life, he was a national leader in the textile industry. The event extended invitations to only the top finishers from a select list of events held over the past year. The 2002 field represents twelve states and some 30 major tournament titles.
