Greyling Claims Chapman in Record Form

Spartanburg, SC: Christo Greyling of Orlando, FL posted a eight under par 136 to claim the 5th annual Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational. The 36 hole national event was played September 18 and 19, at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

Greyling started the day at five-under-par and two strokes behind first round leader Brent Delahoussaye. Greyling set himself up for the win early in the round by eagling the two par fives on the front; holes 1 and 5. That proved to be all he needed.

Greyling's 136 rewrote the three year old scoring record by two shots. The old record of 138 was set in 1996 by Kyle Thompson and Michael Maness. It was matched in 1998 by Jay Degenhart.

Delahoussaye, of Greer, SC, never was able to make anything happen in the final round. The good putting that helped him record eight birdies in the first round never produced in the final. He finished alone in second place at 139.

The Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational extends invitations to only  the top finishers from  a select list of events held over the last twelve months.  The 1999 field of 75 players represented nine states and some 60 titles including: ten State Champions, nine AJGA titles and six player-of-the-year honors.

The tournament is held in honor of the late Robert H. Chapman, Jr.   Chapman, a long time member of the Country Club of Spartanburg, served as president of both the South Carolina Golf Association & Carolinas Golf Association. He was an accomplished player and served the USGA in several capacities.
