Hatfield, Barrett take the Blade

Greer – Vince Hatfield came from behind to claim The Blade Junior Golf Classic by three shots over Greenville’s Luke Hopkins. Taylor Barrett of York held on to the girls title after she fired a second round 75 to win by two. The tournament is proudly hosted by The Thornblade Club and is presented by the many event sponsors of the Blade Corporate Challenge.

Hatfield coupled an opening 73 with a second round 68, low round of the day, to pass the first round leaders. The Greenwood native put himself in great position to catch the leaders and defend his 2003 Blade title after his front nine of 34. With the leaders falling back on the tough course, Hatfield secured the Championship with a back nine of 34. The boys 13-14 bracket ended up with McCuen Elmore as Champion after he finished at a 147 total, three clear of Wesley Bryan. The Boys 10-12 has Sumter’s Hayden Letien on top after he completed play in 70 shots. Richard Hubbard of Mt Pleasant took the Boys 8-9 after he shot an eighteen hole total of 73.

Emily Rapp gave Barrett a run for the money as she played the course in 73 shots, closing the gap on the rest of the field. The York native came home in 75 with a tournament total of 152. The Girls 11-13 has Kim Herring taking the title over Austin Ernst thanks to a final round 35 to win by four shots. McKenzie Talbert captured the littlest girls bracket after she fired a second nine hole round of 42.
