Georgia takes International Junior Four Ball Savannah, GA Virginia was well poised to take their third International Junior Four Ball title as they finished regulation play at 12 under par for the two day tournament. Michael Moyers and Evan Beck combined to birdie the tough eighteenth to shoot 132. James White and Sam Braver, representing the Georgia State Golf Association, fired a second round 65 to tie the Virginia contingent after 36 holes of play. Sudden death play was to settle the tie and after four holes, the Georgia natives earned their first Junior Four Ball Championship. James White converted the ten foot birdie putt to end the domination of the Virginia State Golf Association.
Juniors were selected based on their past year performances and are representing their respective Golf Associations. The International Junior Four Ball Invitational is presented by the Savannah Harbor Foundation and conducted by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association. Other key sponsors include the tournament host, The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, Heritage Classic Foundation, Velocity Works, Inc., Savannah Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Club Car.
The format is a 36-hole, stroke play, four ball tournament that brings together two-man teams representing five states and Canada. Georgia, Louisiana, Ohio, South Carolina and Virginia are all represented along with the International flavor of the Canadian Junior Golf Association.
On Friday, the 10th, the inaugural Junior - Amateur took place as a way for junior teams to compete with local sponsors in a modified texas scramble format. Funds generated by the Junior - Am not only help to fund the Four- Ball championship, but raise vital monies for the Savannah Harbor Foundation. The USC of Beaufort took the title with a two ball score of 122. Kim Abbott along with Mark Gonsalves paired with juniors Wesley Bryan and Austin Gutgsell to fire the impressive nines of 62-60.
