Thirty teams of two players
converged at Lake Murray Golf Center to participate in the 6th
Annual SCJGA Par 3 Challenge. The event is proudly presented by Baxter
Stores and is conducted by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.
The teams competed in three divisions playing 18 holes of par 3 golf. The
divisions were based on the ages of the team members. Brandon Coggins and
Josh Gallman captured the highly competitive 8-18 bracket after they fired
a 7 under par 47 over the two 9 hole rounds. With both players between the
age of 8-12, Cody Proveaux and Blake Kennedy took the younger bracket
after playing their 18 holes in one under par 53. The older players being
guided by the younger players, otherwise known as the 8 and up bracket,
had the Tompkins clan of Columbia on top with 53.
The tournament is a means for players to enjoy a fun competitive event,
while getting tuned for the busy summer season. The Par Three Challenge is
one of the many events conducted by the SCJGA in support of today’s
juniors and tomorrow’s leaders.
