Fall Challenge

Local Bennett Fall Challenge Champion!
Matt Bennett fired a second round 75 to finish the Cheraw State Park Fall Challenge at one over par and take home top honors! The Cheraw native’s 147 (72,75) was just good enough to beat out Steven Hartwig of Irmo who finished the event at 148 (76,72). Rounding out the top 4 were Kellen Altman of Myrtle Beach and Colby Hyduke of Bennettsville, who posted the low round of the tournament with second round 70. The 7th Annual Fall Challenge is hosted by Cheraw State Park and presented by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism.

In girls action, Erica Battle of Columbia took home the title following up her first round 74 with a second round 76.  Battle’s 150 was four shots better than second place finisher Mallory Hetzel of Summerville and five better than Chapin’s Dinah Plyler. George Bryan of Columbia was the champion in boys 13-14 division with a two day total 148 (76,72), while Cheraw native Baker Elmore finishing second at 151 (79,72).  Finishing third was Phillip Mollica of Anderson and defending champion Michael Chappell of Columbia finished fourth.

In boys 10-12 play, Michael Muscatell of Lake Wylie won in a playoff with Austin Reeves of Greenville.  Both players finished the tournament at 72, with David Dannelly of Easley one shot back and local McCuen Elmore finishing in fourth.  In boys 8-9 action, Caleb Sturgeon of Laurens won a one hole playoff over Will Murphy of Columbia to take home the victory after both players finished the two rounds at 93.

Emily Rapp of Simpsonville walked away the champion in girls 11-13 action.  Playing her final nine hole event before she turns fourteen, Rapp shot a two day total 81 while Taylor Barrett of York finished second at 85.  In girls 8-10 play, Maureen Dunnagun of Lexington was the champion finishing at 101 and Taylor Threatt of Lancaster finished second.

The two day tournament is conducted by the South Carolina Junior Golf Association.  For more information please contact the SCJGA at 803.732.9311. Full results are as follows:
