Rocky Rolls to Victory!

Hartsville: Rocky Reed of Orangeburg posted a three over par 147 to claim the 2000 SCJGA Players Championship. Reed fired a one over par 73 to edge out Alex Hamilton of Aiken by one stroke. The 36 hole championship was conducted November 11-12, 2000 at Hartsville Country Club. The tournament was sponsored by jointly by Kentco, Carolina Bank, Stingray Boats, and John Newsome's Superstore.
 

The Girls 14-18 bracket went to Lorraine Ballerano of Myrtle Beach. She canned a ten foot par putt on the final hole to close out first round leader Colby Cobb and move to the top of the BB&T Rankings.

Warren Thomas held on to his first round lead to claim the 13-14 boys bracket. Thomas won by five strokes and revenged his loss in the event two years ago.

The third annual tournament's field of 147 consisted of boys and girls ages 8-18 from across the state. They competed in six age groups - three played 18 holes each day while the remaining three played just 9 holes.
 

In the nine hole brackets, Mallory Hetzel of Summerville, Crawford Reeves of Greenville, and George Bryan of Columbia were all winners. It was Reeves second win in as many events. All three players built on first round leads and added to their young but decorated careers.
